Little Alex and Little Katie

Sisters! The Carolinas! Writing Elsewhere! Exclamation Points!

My sister complained that I wasn’t linking to my other articles so I’m fixing this immediately after posting adorable photos of us.

We are still this happy to see each other.

We RV’ed down to visit Katie and her husband and had so much fun with them in Charleston, South Carolina. It feels odd to write about having a good time in a city that has been through so much. While we were down there, we played President Obama’s eulogy for Clementa Pinckney and had some amazing conversations on race and history with the kids, which I will write more about later.

These are mostly pictures of our stop in North Carolina… probably because we swam in a lake of fire and I wanted to capture our finally moments.

North Carolina camping
We stopped in North Carolina on our way down and swam and camped.
Lake Jones
The lake was red and I was all “Swimming in a lake of blood, see you in hell” but mostly to myself.
Cypress Tree
We were told it’s actually the cypress trees. Nature is so much more freaky than anything mankind could come up with…

big chair
On our way home we found the biggest chair in North Carolina, which was probably the kids favorite part after seeing Aunt Katie.

Okay now onto where else I write. For you, Katie…

Thanks for reading me elsewhere. xoxo

Alex Iwashyna

Alex Iwashyna went from a B.A. in philosophy to an M.D. to a SAHM, poet and writer by 30. She spends most of her writing time on, a humor blog (except when it's serious) about her husband fighting zombies, awkward attempts at friendship, and dancing like everyone is watching. She also has a soft spot for culture, politics, and rude Southern people who offend her Yankee sensibilities. She parents 2 elementary-aged children, 1 foster baby, 3 cats, and 1 puppy, who are all Southern but not rude. Yet.

  1. Loved the pics of you and your sister when you were kids! I’m sure you must enjoy looking through them sometimes and just remembering. I feel the same way about looking at old photographs of me and my brother when we were young (the few where we don’t have our hands around each other’s throat, anyway).

By the way, that is a big chair! I hope you managed to locate the kids again when it was time for them to come down from it.
