My handsome cat

This Is Not Photoshopped. I Am Just That Talented.

My handsome cat
My cat is so handsome. He usually has 4 limbs though. I’m a walking Photoshop

I now understand why my sister wanted me to join Instagram so much. She knew how talented I was with my iPhone. The photo above is one of my more recent pics of wow.

A few weeks ago under duress from my business, my curiosity and my sister, I joined both Instagram and Pinterest. Even worse, I’ve actually like them a little bit.

Of course, I’d like Pinterest more if they would un-ban me from their front page.

I know I don’t use it like I’m supposed to use it. I have weird boards, and people repin my things to boards that are the exact opposite of the board I have them on, but I would like to at least SEE how to style the perfect $3 million dollar wedding and what it takes to make the organic coffee vanilla cake pop smoothie I’ll never actually make or pin unless it freaks me out. (I have board for that.)

I can’t because I am blocked by this pop-up window from Pinterest’s front page:

Pinterest Homepage Ban
There’s no opt-out button. I’m a rebellious introvert. Don’t force me to be social.

The only work around I can find is on the mobile app. However, I can’t pin anywhere else with my phone though, and I’d rather pin my stuff like how I’m A Nerd where I can make a lamp out of my kid’s Star Wars helmets or pin a funny poster about Castiel from Supernatural or my board on how I plan to one day disappear off the grid, and how we’ll start with radical gardening. (I do have a normal-ish board on writing inspiration, but I’m not sure what inspires me to write will inspire anyone else.)

What I’m saying is while I’m still busy pinning cool stuff to MY five tiny boards, I don’t want to follow FIVE random boards I might or might not have interest in, and I don’t want to follow/unfollow just to get Pinterest to let me onto their homepage. I WON’T USE PEOPLE LIKE THAT PINTEREST!

So I wait. And pin weird stuff and wait some more in the hopes that I can out-wait Pinterest’s interest in my followings.

I totally doing this wrong.

Maybe I should Instagram my kids photobombing a perfectly lovely picture of my husband and I instead… Oh, I already did.

I especially love E’s face in the back: Peekaboo and what up, family?

Alex Iwashyna went from a B.A. in philosophy to an M.D. to a SAHM, poet and writer by 30. She spends most of her writing time on, a humor blog (except when it's serious) about her husband fighting zombies, awkward attempts at friendship, and dancing like everyone is watching. She also has a soft spot for culture, politics, and rude Southern people who offend her Yankee sensibilities. She parents 2 elementary-aged children, 1 foster baby, 3 cats, and 1 puppy, who are all Southern but not rude. Yet.

  1. Pinterest gives me a complex…like am I supposed to be crafting all the things from glue and horse hair? And baking things that taste like the same things you can just buy in the store?
    These are important life question…

    1. So maybe it’s good that I can’t get on the main page because I’ve not seen anything like that although I know it’s there. I just pin stuff from the Internet pretty much and nothing is crafts unless making my own Drano so I can stick it to THE MAN counts. Otherwise, it’s people who engage in M&M wars and saving the world. I should find a horse hair cupcake recipe and really take over Pinterest.

    1. Yay! I think I already follow you but I’m not sure because I find the whole follow and following confusing on IG. I’m lateenough on there so find me and I’ll make sure — I’m new here! There! IG!

  2. It also drove me crazy that Pinterest was making me pick random boards to follow.I held out for a while. but, I eventually caved. I just hated that little pop up window with such passion! As it turns out, you can then just unfollow them! 🙂

  3. I haven’t figured out how to pin things from the Internet using my phone. On my phone I can only pin the stuff people I follow are pinning. I’m all amazed you figured out how to do that.

Don’t believe the cleaning tips…they are all lies. Lies I tell ya!

P.S. Your cat picture would be getting re-pinned like a virus on Pinterest.
