Find more Mayan art by Davis Bradley, who happens to also make art for GWAR, although I took this picture randomly years ago in a coffee shop because I thought it might come in handy one day on my blog, but I googled his name before posting my poem and Facebooked him.

I’ve never understood why we have a holiday for Christopher Columbus. I guess there wasn’t a federal/state/bank holiday in October and they needed a day off?

I think it’s pretty awkward these days. Of course, I’m awkward. Maybe we could just call it Awkward Day?
We could call it Awkward Day if there is candy and/or cake involved. Otherwise, let’s leave it Columbus Day.
Did you hear about the guy who wants to rename it American Exploration day, and celebrate everyone who’s explored something (including space)? I really do like this idea much better than Columbus Day.

Haha, I love this! Columbus Day always makes me think of the song Cortez the Killer by Neil Young. (Hmm… is that weird?) My dad used to play it for me when I was little because he’s cool/weird like that. Hope you had a happy Columbus/Awkward Day.
In South Dakota we call it Native American Day… Cuz, you know, they were here first…
I like that. Of course, in Virginia, it was Lee-Jackson-King Day until about 10 years ago (instead of just Martin Luther King Day) so I’m sure we’ll get there in another century or so.
We really should have an “Awkward Day” because that makes more sense than celebrating Columbus Day. On Columbus Day (here) we celebrate what used to be called “raid day.” Yep, we celebrate the day Pancho Villa crossed the boarder and set fire to the village of Columbus. Makes sense right?
P.S. I’ve been getting blogging awards lately. They are all kind of sweet. I’ve been thinking about creating my own award. It”s going to be something like the “You Make Me Feel Less Awkward” or “Uniting Awkward People Of The World” award. I need it to fit on a button. Anyway, if I ever get around to creating it I will bestow it upon you.
