Crazed New York Giants Fan Blogs Here

This weekend, besides being the 10th anniversary of 9/11, was the start of football season.

Let’s cover our bases: I’m a New York Giants fan. Why? Because I grew up an hour outside New York. Because my dad’s fan. Because I have been since I could think: Football rocks.

Memories:

I remember being too young to watch the end of the 1986 Superbowl so my dad taped it, and I the next day, I watched the Giants win and the Gatorade poured on Bill Parcels. I was ecstatic.

In 2000, I cheer so loud and so obnoxiously at a bar during the Ravens v. Giants Superbowl match up, that my boyfriend and I RAN OUT OF THERE WITH 9-1-1 TYPED INTO MY CELL PHONE. Oops.

I miss going to games at the old Giants stadium because it’s just not the same as the few that I attended at the Redskin’s, oh I’m sorry, the Fed-Ex stadium, once we moved to Virginia.

Sadly, the only N.Y. Giant I’ve met is Tiki Barber on the University of Virginia campus. Of course, I got an autograph and gushed. (it was cooler back then when he seemed nice-ish.)

The Christmas after my husband and I married, he received Giants paraphernalia. A requirement in the marriage. (It evens out since I’m forced to watch futbol. {shudder})

The only television my son watched in his first year of life? New York Giants games. It’s not screen time. It’s life.

I ALWAYS think we’ll win. And I ALWAYS want the Cowboys to lose.

The only difference this football season? I also have a fantasy football league.

My team is: No Idea What We’re Doing

Because I have to text my sister three times a day asking her why half my team isn’t starters (they are starters, I just misunderstood the stat I was reading). And I only know to worry about that because her boyfriend gentle informed me while I was drafting that I might not want to pick a running back WHO NEVER STARTS.

After the draft, I took a screen shot of my team roster since I hadn’t heard of half of them and I would forget who to play each week.

But true to my New York Giants fan-ship, I chose not one, not two, but THREE Giants players including the entire defensive. And not a SINGLE COWBOY.

I could’ve also named my team: We Have Standards

PS. So you had one good game Redskins fans. The New York Giants will be back to crush you later on in the season.

  1. I love that you love football and are a die hard fan! I am a huge college football fan and LOVE watching any game if there is a team I have a reason to root for. However, I am currently shopping around for an NFL team to cheer on. I grew up in a Cowboys home – let’s agree Tom Landry was the man, even if you spur the cowboys…see what I did there? But I don’t actively root for them (which is good I see or I might be down a friend!). I don’t want to be a bandwagon fan though so I have to be choosey. Let me know how your fantasy league play goes! You are awesome. I have always wanted to do one but think I just don’t know enough. Maybe next year? Right now I think I might become a Raven’s fan due to Ray Lewis and the fact he’s old and still getting it done. And they are nearby so it’s not totally random. I can’t do the redskins simply for the fact I was brought up a cowboy fan…and their color scheme is all wrong.

  2. YAY!!! I love this post!

I, too, am a rabid football fan. We are Carolina Panthers fans (I know, it’s sad) and I feel the same way about them as you do your Giants.

I also have a fantasy football team this year, although the name of my team isn’t nearly as cool as yours.

AND we hate the Cowboys with a fiery passion, as well. :0)

  3. My husband, a charter Redskins fan, always calls his best friend every Sunday after the game. Usually they mope about how the ‘Skins blew it – again. Yesterday’s conversation went something like this. “Wow, great game. ‘Skins finally have an undefeated season on their hands.” “Yeah, they’ve doubled the scores to their opponents this season.” Laugher. Long pause. They know the win over the Giants is temporary but they still love their Redskins.

  4. At least we can hate the cowboys together! Thought of you last night as I was watching the final seconds – still thinking we could lose in the end!
    Hail to the Redskins! Mwah!

  5. At least you are not a house divided… I am a Seahawks fan and Scott likes the Ravens, so it is hard get the kids brainwashed to any one team. There is one thing that we do agree on and that is that we don’t like the Cowboys.
Good luck with your fantasy team. We hopefully should win this week with our fantasy team (unless Ochocinco has the game of his life tonight).

  6. Okay… you hate the Dallas Cowboys (aka The Cows). I will forgive your misguided notion that the New York Giants do anything. At all.
Good luck in you fantasy league. My first year was a disaster. This year will be glorious.

  7. Good stiff arms! I too love football, although I am a Chiefs fan, but I always (ALWAYS) cheer for any other team when the Cowboys or Raiders are playing. I thought about doing a fantasy team this year but never got around to doing my homework. Maybe next year.
