January 2011

My daughter gets a pair of cute Mary Jane shoes as a gift. She falls in love. The shoes are soft with flowers and bright colors. But that’s not why she adores them. No. She adores them because they squeak. And squeak. And squeak. And squeak. And squeak. And squeak. And squeak. And squeak. And [...]

me as a princess

Last night, we had to run to the pharmacy and grocery store. N has croup and we were out of coffee. (I’m not sure which one is more horrible.) My son was back in his yellow dress. I was relieved to see him playing as he sees fit — that other children’s slights have not [...]

Of coures THIS HAPPENED so it couldn't have been all bad.

Scott and I need to plan our summer family vacation RIGHT NOW because I’m teaching again this summer, and I can’t take my blogging buddies with me — tuition would be too high, and some of them should NOT be trusted with driving or sharp objects.  And by some of them, I mean me. Details [...]

I wrote the outline for this post a few months ago in a flash of annoyance. I don’t have much to say about why because drama is something I like to keep to the voices in my head. I will say that you did not inspire this post. {hug} Five Lame Things People Tell You [...]

This afternoon, my son presented his musical to me — complete with comfortable seating and a snack. It was about eating a HUGE LUNCH. The big number was I GOT CHEESE. I understand where he’s coming from. I have always wanted my life to be in a musical. The idea of people walking along just [...]

Instead of getting up and moving down one to allow for seven people to sit down, the boyfriend pulls the seat between me and him CLOSER TO HIM. In case his pleather man purse needs a chair.

We went to Northern Virginia for the weekend to visit friends. Which is pretty much the only reason to go the Northern Virginia. Otherwise, you are going to Washington D.C., and people are much more impressed. We stay in a hotel because our friends refuse to purchase the condo next door as a guest home [...]

Alex and a toilet plunger

I’m not good at transitions, but I am good at disappointing people. So here we go with a new post after Thursday’s extravaganza. An extravaganza that I don’t yet have words to thank you for, but know that your comments made a difference, not just in my life but in the lives of people around [...]

I brought a small yellow bow to my first day of teaching my blogging class, and I’ve left it on my bag ever since. The morning of my class, my daughter shocked me by requesting a bow for her hair. I brought it down and showed her. N, realizing what she had done, shrieked NO. [...]
