What The Heck I Do When I Am Not Obsessing Over My Newest Blog Post

I’ve been shadily mentioning being busy. And then secretly tweeting and facebooking about it but not actually posting about it here.

Why?

I’m shy, emotional, and oversensitive. Okay, I’m not shy. But the rest? TOTALLY TRUE.

I am a BlogHer Voices of the Year in two categories! Find me under Life and Op-Ed along with some truly amazing bloggers. Honestly, I was told Thursday night via email but was not allowed to announce it until Monday (something about giving other finalists ulcers blah blah blah). But I will let you in on a secret…

One sentence they wrote: [You’re] our one duplicate finalist, to be honest.

My reply: I don’t know if I could jump up and down anymore without waking the kids.

And then they took it back. Because there’s not a category for lame.

I’m also wasting my time as the content manager for the Blogger Body Calendar. It’s a redefine-sexy calendar to promote positive body image and the proceeds go to the National Eating Disorder Association.

If you want to get involved, please go here or if you want to blog about your love of the junk in your trunk email me as Queen of the Blog, Twitter and Facebook accounts (which is what I should’ve demanded my title be).

And I’m Ms. November in the calendar. Thanks to photographer Katie Stoops for agreeing to help me get my sexy on without getting someone else’s sexy on. (Translation because it’s late and that last sentence only made sense in my head = I want to be proud of my body in an Alex-way not a trying-to-be-someone-else’s-version-of-sexy-way)

So although Late Enough comes before everything except my family (hahaha… wait, that wasn’t a joke), if I’m slower than usual to respond, please know that it’s not because I’m not in love with you anymore. Because my love for you is like caffeine. It’s MAGICAL BLOGGY LOVE.

Speaking of love, THANK YOU for making a socially awkward mama brave enough to put her writing (and more) out there. You make me jump up and down all the time. Seriously.

Alex Iwashyna went from a B.A. in philosophy to an M.D. to a SAHM, poet and writer by 30. She spends most of her writing time on LateEnough.com, a humor blog (except when it's serious) about her husband fighting zombies, awkward attempts at friendship, and dancing like everyone is watching. She also has a soft spot for culture, politics, and rude Southern people who offend her Yankee sensibilities. She parents 2 elementary-aged children, 1 foster baby, 3 cats, and 1 puppy, who are all Southern but not rude. Yet.

    1. I wondered if I actually got that joke across:
So I am a duplicate finalist but my email response was so lame that the joke is BlogHer took back the award.

      Does that make more sense?

  1. I need a copy of that calendar for my anorexic SIL.

(The Goth’s girlfriend is skinny as a rail, but she eats like a horse. We sat her across from SIL at the bbq, just to drive home the point).

  2. That’s great news but I can’t say I’m surprised seeing as you are smart enough to have a plan for the zombie apocalypse. That’s some brains, that is.

    Mmmmm….brains…..

  3. Wish I could congratulate you in person in August, but oh well. Perhaps next year, for your other awards ๐Ÿ™‚ For now, I hope a virtual high five will suffice.

  4. Congrats on the award. How absolutely amazingly cool! I started my blog a little too late this year to be on top of getting to BlogHer and I’m really bumming I’ll miss it. Next year for sure. I’m excited to meet you and I’m following now, I love your quick wit. A woman after my own heart!

  5. Ummmm . . . congratulations and all that.

Well-deserved and you should revel in your success . . . ummmm . . . and I am all proud.

    Damnit.

    Zombies have eaten my brains.

And also? I am a teeny bit green with envy.

    YOU ARE AWESOME!

So first, I love the calander concept! Where/when can I get one?
Second, I personally think you need to be refered to Oh Great Mistress. OGM. (I personally require hubby and children while being bad to refer to me as OGMD, oh great mistress of the dark).
