It’s Father’s Day, Which Is Kind Of Annoying

As we embark on Father’s Day, I’ve decided that there should be two Mother’s Days instead.

Me: What would you like to do for Father’s Day?
Scott: Um..
Me: I figured a massage at some point. But not Father’s Day weekend since you’re working. But what about food? Are you craving anything? And how do you want to organize your day around the our dads?
Scott: Um…
Me: I thought you should get some time with just us, but I wasn’t sure if you were like me and wanted the whole day. I also liked having half the day alone (and sleeping — although I don’t usually talk in parenthesis) and the other half with the kids.
Scott: Um…
Me: Well, think about it and let me know. We have three weeks to decide.
Scott: Um…

And now it’s Father’s Day. No massage is scheduled, we only managed to pin down seeing our fathers TWO DAYS AGO, I have no idea what we are eating, and I’m already exhausted at the idea that the entire day isn’t supposed to be about me.

But thanks for being a kick butt dad.

You’re a great dad even when you ask me to get E out of the car, and as he exits, these fall out of his lap.

Yes, those are matches. CPS will be here on Monday.

And you respond with the glint of fatherly pride: Did he actually light any of them?

{sigh} even my blog is about you today.

Oh yeah and Happy Father’s Day.

That sounds exactly like our conversation about Father’s Day. And today really is all about him because he left on a business trip this morning for Algeria and I’m stuck caring for the house and kids.

Big ole sigh.

Ha! I asked my husband what he wanted for Father’s Day and he said, “I want to be left alone and play video games all day.” That lame-o!

LOL!

My husband wants me do what ever I want on Father’s day…at least that’s what I got from our conversation.

Here’s my take on Father’s Day…

He gets the entire day to spend with his son and be the awesome daddy that he is! (Translation: I make him a special breakfast and go back to bed).

Go me! I can make anyday about me of I twist it juuuuust right! ;)

Sweet- matches are a great toy! Kind of like the time I came home and found Scott and 2 yo Hayden sitting at the table with glue, paper scraps, and EXACTO knives. Nice.

When we were new parents, I would say things like, I hope she’s healthy, happy, I hope she is kind. And the Dad here would say, I hope she’s devious. Glint in eye. Really? Okay, you enjoy your devious, opinionated, persistent child. Today, she’s all yours. (Okay, she’s also awesome much of the time, but that doesn’t sound as good.)

The kids took over Father’s Day this year. I got a day off, almost as though it was Mother’s Day (which I didn’t get off, so it’s a good thing).

Sorry to rub it in.

My husband is already talking about fire pits in the backyard and setting things on fire with the boys. Apparently this is a boy/man thing. I, on the other hand, was scared to light a match until well into my college years.

Daddy’s pride – so misguided, so precious (and secretly to ourselves, so cute!). Hope you had a wonderful day of celebration.
