Going Green: Blogging & Carbon Emissions

carbon neutral coupons and shopping with kaufDA.de  I’m greening my blog. Thanks goes to ThatGirlBlogs for pointing out My Blog is Carbon Neutral.

The PLAN: I post about going carbon neutral, let them know via email, add the pretty badge, and the Arbor Day Foundation plants a tree in honor of Late Enough! Neutralizing us for a year! And since my blog is still a baby-blog, we will have leftover carbon absorption to neutralize another blog, too! We ROCK twice over!  (Although if more people WANT to read, I’m okay with just helping my blog.  Seriously.)

The facts: “According to a study by Alexander Wissner-Gross, PhD, physicist at Harvard University and environmental activist, an average website causes about 0.02g (0,0008oz.) of carbon dioxide for each visit. Assuming an average blog gets 15,000 visits a month, it has yearly carbon dioxide emissions of 3,6kg (8lb.). This can mainly be tracked back to the immense energy usage from (mainframe) computers, servers, and their cooling systems.”

This months Going Green is so easy! If you have a blog, join in. And if you don’t, you get to feel good reading my eco-friendly blog!  Yay!

(And yes, I did talk directly to The Arbor Foundation, and the program is legit.)

She spends most of her writing time on LateEnough.com, a humor blog (except when it's serious) about her husband fighting zombies, awkward attempts at friendship, and dancing like everyone is watching. She also has a soft spot for culture, politics, and rude Southern people who offend her Yankee sensibilities. She parents 2 elementary-aged children, 1 foster baby, 3 cats, and 1 puppy, who are all Southern but not rude. Yet.

  1. So fun! The Richmond Robinsons will try to go carbon friendly as well. I LOVE Arbor Day! I think it even originated in Nebraska. We always and a big celebration every year in elem. school. I can still sing the commercial from the 80's with Carly the cardinal singing about the Arbor Day Foundation (“…spreading the word across the nation about TREES! Trees are terrific!”).

  2. That's hilarious! I remember Earth Day and picking up litter but I don't have fond memories of Arbor Day… But we can't all be from Nebraska!

  3. Good grief. Eight pounds of emissions per year for all my emailing. Well, my garden is doing okay. We have had a couple of salads already. Good luck with yours this year. I gotta get going; I’m taking our grandson and our neighbor to the Texas coast today and coming home tomorrow. Better little than none. I guess. Except for carbon emissions. Sigh.
